Flat Stanley's journal of his weekend with Joshua

Lindsay – Mum
Joshua – Age 5
Caleb – Age 2 years 10 months

Wow. What a weekend. Friday night I had a sleep over at Joshua’s mate Jacob’s house. First we changed the tyre on a tractor that had a flatty. Of course I’ve changed tyres before on my pushbike but not one as huge as Mr T’s, he had a jack propping up the wheel hub, while he removed the tyre.
We boys were pretty dirty after our tyre changing so we had a bubble bath. We made bubble bath beards on our faces and giggled at how silly we all looked.
We all had a wonderful time dressing up as the Kings and Queens of P-Road. I should mention I was the king and Josh and Jacob were my queens. My queen’s made me a throne to sit on, I felt quite special.
We had a big dinner then off to bed, after some giggling and chatter we all fell asleep until 5:30am the next morning. We have not really adjusted to daylight savings yet.
Ben’s mum and dad had a wedding to go to over the weekend so Josh had invited Ben and Jacob to stay with him for a sleepover Saturday night. Josh’s mum picked us up and on our way home we picked feijoas at Josh’s gateway. Joshua loves feijoas. Joshua’s mum told me how when Josh was Caleb’s age he used to do disappearing acts down to the gate to pick feijoas. One day he thought he might even go down the road and pick up the mail but luckily the next door neighbour came past on his motorbike and frightened Joshua home.
We decided to go for an adventure up to Josh’s Grandma and Grandpork’s place, so we set out on foot and Josh took us up the steep hill to their place. I sure was glad Josh had put me on top of his backpack, I really would have struggled to keep up the pace. Josh’s grandma offered us a chocolate after our long walk, which we scoffed and then thought it time to head home for lunch.
Josh’s mum had pumpkin soup waiting for us at home. Jacob wasn’t sure if he liked pumpkin soup but it turns out he really liked it because he ended up having three helpings.
So the four of us hung out doing boys stuff. You know like eating popcorn, watching tv, riding pushbikes and jumping on the trampoline. We played touch rugby on Josh’s lawn, man Josh’s brother Caleb loves rugby.
Saturday night we had tacos for dinner and toffee banana splits for pudding. Yum, we boys just about licked our plates clean. Jimmy suggested that we should have banana splits for breakfast, but Josh’s mum didn’t think that was such a great idea.
On Sunday we woke up at 7:00am (that sure is better than 5:30am). Josh introduced me to a game he likes to call “Undy Monsters”. The game, in short, is where you wear undies on your head and run around giggling. We laughed and laughed at each other. After some breakfast and a quick bike ride up to Grandma and Grandpork’s, Josh’s dad took us on a mystery trip to Tauranga. He wouldn’t tell us where we were going. We played guessing games of where we might go. Jacob thought we might be going to the zoo and that maybe we would have elephant rides. Imagine how excited we all were. I even got out at the motorway toll bridge and asked the toll lady where we might be going. She didn’t know but was very friendly so I asked to have my photo taken with her.
We finally arrived at the destination –Chip Munks, Yee Haaaa! There were lots of climbing frames, obstacle courses, guns, bouncy castles and slides to play on. We had chicken nuggets and chips for lunch, which gave us just the energy to run around like mad things.
After we returned from Tauranga Josh’s dad took us for a ride on Josh’s motorbike. Josh told me about when he went to the Nitro Circus where these really talented riders do stunt tricks, back flips and huge jumps on their bikes. Josh wants to do that too when he grows up. So I thought Josh must be very experienced so I thought I might have a go. Josh strapped me to the front of his bike and off we went just like in Nitro Circus. Josh said I did really well, that he had been surprised how brave I was given that he had only been riding motorbikes for 6 weeks. He suggested next time I bring my helmet…next time I don’t think I’ll be so keen!!!
Well that about covers what I got up to with Joshua in the weekend. I’m off to bed now because it’s school photos tomorrow and I want to look my best.
I wonder what adventures I will have this week? Thanks Josh, Jacob and Ben for a great ‘boys weekend’.
