Adventure At Ben Y's

Friday 18th March-Sunday 20th March

At Ben Y’s

I had a windy trip home up Pakaraka Road, to discover Ben has 5 sisters, bigger and smaller, lots of people to play with! Ben was so excited to have another boy to play with for the entire weekend.

We spent the weekend playing and doing lots of exploring.

Saturday morning we ventured to Ben’s Grandma’s house in anticipation of watching bread baking, but Grandma already had the buns cooked and waiting to be devoured by the kids. So instead Ben and I helped with the preparation of a plum pie, also as yummy as her bread.

Ben’s Uncle C is building a food smoker, we saw it in action, I even got to hold a side of bacon, man it sure is smoky, I was coughing a lot! Afterwards I soaked in a big bubbly bath with the kids to smell yummy again.

Sunday was spent at Ben’s place playing, playing and more playing. The range of activities consisted  of constructing huts in the bedrooms and under trees, jumping in Charlotte’s jolly jumper with her (she can jump as high as the sky for a little baby), playing Barbies, jumping on the tramp, riding bikes and scooters, slipping and sliding on the waterslide, playing fairy snap and Pictureka games, singing, eating burgers for dinner – thanks Harriet, it was delicious!

I suggested that the kids wear a Kuranui t-shirt for a family photo, lining up from tallest to shortest. I wanted to stand next to my friend Ben. It turns out that even baby Charlotte is taller than me! We were all laughing like hyenas when they discovered I was the shortest.

Sarah wanted to practise her guitar playing, we all were able to choose songs to sing while she played. We were just like the Von Trapp family from the Sound of Music with 5 girls and 2 boys……..My favourite song was “I am Flat Stanley Yes I am”.

Sunday night Ben and I wanted to sleep in our amazing hut we had built in Harriet’s bedroom. But we decided being Monday tomorrow, it would be sensible to sleep in a comfy bed instead to be prepared for our day’s learning at school.

I had so much fun playing with Ben and his family, there’s always something to do and someone to play with, and lots of chattering and noise.
