Flat Stanley goes to Mount Maunganui…
What an action packed weekend I had with Sean and his family. After school on Friday we hopped into the car and headed for Sean’s Nana’s house at Mount Maunganui. When we woke up on Saturday, our first adventure was the Golf Range by Bayfair with Sean’s dad. We had about 50 balls that we could hit with our golf clubs into a gigantic net. That was lots of fun and I could see that Sean really loves golf.
After that we were pretty hot so we decided to take the boogie boards down to the beach. It was cold in the water at first but it wasn’t long before it warmed up and we were riding the waves. Sean’s sister Taylah was on her board too and we had a blast.
Nest we headed right down into the Mount and Sean and Taylah were very excited to be going on the bungy. First we had to put on a harness that was joined onto some very stretchy cords. Then we bounced on a trampoline really high and dd lots of forwards and backwards flips. I was in Sean’s harness and I held on really tight. My heart was racing and I could feel Sean’s heart racing too. That was really exciting.
After lunch Sean’s mum decided that we should climb Mount Maunganui, so we put on our shoes and lots of sunblock and off we tramped. It was hard work but Sean was in front the whole way and he held on to me tight so I didn’t fall. When we got to the top the view was amazing. We saw Rabbit Island, Motiti Island, and lots of very tall buildings. The beach stretched a long way and the ocean was very blue. There were lots of boats out at sea and a huge container ship.
The most exciting part of my weekend was on Sunday afternoon when Sean’s Aunty phoned and said she was going for a ride in a glider and I was invited to go along. Sean was allowed to sit in the glider and his mum took a photo. There was a long rope that hooked onto the glider and a small plane in front which towed us along and soon we began to lift up into the sky. We went very high and then the rope was unhooked and we glided around in the sky by ourselves. It was very quiet because the glider had no engine. I waved to Sean and his mum down on the ground and they got smaller and smaller. I was very tired on Sunday night when it was time for bed. What a busy weekend! Thanks to my buddy Sean and his family.
