21/22 May 2011 – My weekend with Kate
Hi Kate my name is “Flat Stanley” and I’ll be coming to your house this weekend. How cool is that!
That’s really cool Flat Stanley, you can come and meet my brother Trent and my mum and dad. We’re going to have a really great weekend. So let’s go…
Saturday morning arrives and we’re off to watch Trent play soccer at Putaruru. Great game to watch! I was giving plenty of encouragement from the sideline. Unfortunately the team didn’t win but never mind there’s always next weekend.
After soccer it was off to Arapuni to visit Kate’s cousin, Emma, at her house. We had a delicious lunch and then went to the Arapuni Swing Bridge. Wow what a bridge! They thought I should try a bungy jump off here but I didn’t think that was quite my thing. Just as well I’m not afraid of heights. Did you know that this bridge was built in the late 1920’s. What an amazing feat to have built it way back then. We decided to go for a bit of a bush walk and then back to Emma’s house and home to Okoroire.
Sunday morning Kate’s mum was taking us to a surprise destination. Can you imagine how excited we were – yippee. We travelled through this amazing natural bush on both sides of the road, this was called Fitzgerald Glade on the way to Rotorua.
We arrived at our destination – Rainbow Springs, Rotorua. What an amazing place – all those trout. Some were absolutely massive. We also got to see a tree frog, geckos, tuataras and water dragons. Hey, did you see me in the photo by the water dragon? We also went into the kiwi enclosure, it was quite dark but we did see three kiwis. After we’d walked around the whole place we then went to the Fair that was on at the Rotorua Lakefront and went and had fun on the playground. After that it was off to the hot mud pools on the way home. Wow the amount of steam coming off the pools was amazing and you could see the water bubbling up too.
After such an exciting day it was off home back to Okoroire. Early to bed that night, we were all so exhausted. What a great day. Thanks Kate.
